- The first step to obtaining a study permit is to obtain a letter of acceptance from a designated learning institution (DLI) in Canada. This is necessary in order to demonstrate that you have been accepted to a Canadian institution and are eligible to study in Canada.
- Step 2: Prove Financial Ability to Support Yourself To obtain a study permit, you will need to demonstrate that you have sufficient financial funds to support your studies and living expenses while in Canada. You will need to provide proof that you can pay for the first year’s tuition fees and living expenses, as well as for return transportation to your home country.
- Step 3: Provide a Police Clearance Certificate You will need to obtain a police clearance certificate in order to apply for a study permit. This is to ensure that you do not have a criminal background that could pose a risk to Canadian security.

To qualify for the Student Direct Stream, you will need to meet certain criteria, including providing proof of acceptance to a designated learning institution, proof of payment for tuition fees, and language test results. The processing time for applications under the Student Direct Stream is typically 20 calendar days.
